Epistemology

Referenced in: The God Who Refused to Stay Quiet

The branch of philosophy concerned with the nature, sources, and limits of knowledge. How do you know what you know? What counts as justification? Can you know anything with certainty? Schaeffer’s entire project is fundamentally epistemological: he argues that secular philosophy cannot account for the fact that human beings know things, and that only the Christian framework; a rational Creator who made rational creatures in His image and who communicates with them propositionally; provides the necessary preconditions for knowledge. Epistemology is not an academic side topic; it is the question underneath every other question. If you cannot justify how you know anything, you cannot justify any specific thing you claim to know.
