The Gospel Isn’t a Song, It’s a Verdict

The word "gospel" once meant a military victory announcement; a report of something that happened in space and time, whether you believed it or not. Today it has been emptied into a synonym for "my personal truth." That shift was not an evolution. It was a retreat. And the retreat broke the staircase between fact and meaning.

The Hostile Witnesses Who Couldn’t Look Away

Tacitus called Christianity a "mischievous superstition." Josephus was a Jewish general who served Rome. Pliny the Younger was annoyed by their stubbornness. None of them were converts. All of them confirm the same framework: a man named Jesus was executed by Pontius Pilate, and his followers would not stop saying they saw him alive again.

The Medical Examiner’s Report on the Crucifixion

In 1986, the Journal of the American Medical Association published a forensic analysis of the Gospel crucifixion accounts. They found details that a first-century fisherman could not have invented: the rare stress condition of sweating blood, the precise medical meaning of "blood and water" from a pierced heart. The records read like a clinical report.

Why Conspiracies Die and This Didn’t

Mathematician David Robert Grimes calculated that a conspiracy involving more than a few hundred people collapses within years. The early Christian account involved hundreds of public witnesses, many of whom were tortured and executed. No one recanted. The conspiracy theory requires more faith than the resurrection.

When Truth Broke and Society Followed

We have returned to a pre-Christian subjectivity where every individual is their own arbiter of truth. The result is not liberation; it is fragmentation. Social media algorithms feed us our own "gospel" back to us until we cannot speak the same language as our neighbors. The question is no longer "what is true?" but "what is true for me?"

The Day Journalism Filed Its Own Obituary

Journalism died this week at the age of however old you think it was. The cause was listed as "complications from metrics-driven editorial strategy," though those who knew it well suspect the underlying condition was a decades-long refusal to distinguish between information and entertainment while insisting both deserved a Pulitzer. It is survived by several hundred podcasters who call themselves journalists because they own microphones, a cable news industry that has not noticed the passing, and approximately twelve local newspaper reporters who are too busy covering city council meetings to attend the funeral.

A Field Guide to Journalists Who Remember the Assignment

The species is not extinct. But locating one requires patience, a willingness to look past the algorithmic feed, and an acceptance that what you find will probably be working at a publication you have never heard of, earning a salary that qualifies them for public assistance. This guide is intended for the amateur journalist-watcher who wishes to distinguish genuine specimens from the more common varieties that have adapted to survive on click metrics alone. Warning: sightings are rare and should be reported to someone who will believe you.

The 24-Hour News Cycle: A Panic Attack With Benefits

Let us examine the patient. Cause of death: the invention of a format that requires the human nervous system to remain in a state of perpetual emergency in order to sustain advertising revenue. The mechanism was elegant in its cruelty. Take something called "breaking news"; once reserved for events that actually broke something; and apply it to everything. The weather. A celebrity's lunch. The President's commute. A tweet about the President's commute. The response to the tweet about the President's commute. Every hour, a new emergency. Every emergency, a new reason not to look away. The patient did not die from lack of information. It died from being force-fed information until it forgot what information was.

The Frame

WHO

A single voice, but not isolated. A human created in the image of God; personal, creative, finite; choosing to live as one crucified with Christ and raised by God.

WHAT

"F in the chat" is a living archive. It captures what is rejected, broken, overlooked; and reworks it into something meaningful. Active articulation, not passive reflection.

WHY

Because truth should withstand scrutiny. Faith treated not as a blind leap, but as something examined, reasoned through, articulated without intellectual dishonesty.

Core Axis

Rejected

What is cast out

Slain

What is broken or killed

Raised

What returns with meaning, clarity, and weight

The Drift No One Analyzed

The tragedy of our situation today is that men and women are being fundamentally affected by the new way of looking at truth, and yet they have never even analyzed the drift which has taken place. Young people from Christian homes are brought up in the old framework of truth. Then they are subjected to the modern framework. In time they become confused because they do not understand the alternatives with which they are being presented. Confusion becomes bewilderment, and before long they are overwhelmed.

The Day Philosophy Gave Up

There was a moment; not a single afternoon but a historical turning; when Western thought stopped believing that rational man could reach objective truth and meaning. It did not happen loudly. Hegel died. Kierkegaard leaped. And by the time anyone noticed, the line had already been crossed. Below that line, truth became a word you use in science class and meaning became a feeling you chase on Sunday. They do not talk to each other anymore. And philosophy, having declared the enterprise hopeless, now writes eulogies and calls them dissertations.

Living in Two Stories at Once

Modern man has built himself a strange house. Downstairs is the world of facts; provable, repeatable, rationally airtight and completely silent on the question of what any of it means. Upstairs is the world of values; love, purpose, dignity, the things that make life bearable; which he has declared non-rational by definition. The two stories do not connect. There is no staircase. If you ask him how he gets from one to the other, he will accuse you of being a fundamentalist. But the question remains: if your meaning has no contact with your facts, what exactly are you standing on?

The Escape Artists

When reason could no longer deliver meaning, the flight began. Not a retreat; an escape. Into the body. Into pure experience. Into the kind of knowing that does not require justification because it has declared justification itself to be the enemy. The escape from reason is not an intellectual argument against rationality; it is a mood, a posture, a cultural atmosphere that treats coherence as a cage and incoherence as liberation. But here is what the escape artists do not tell you: you cannot flee from the structure of reality and expect to land somewhere solid. The jump feels like freedom. The landing feels like a hospital bed you did not check yourself into.

What It Means That Truth Is Not Ours to Vote On

There is a kind of truth that does not care whether you believe it. Not because it is indifferent; because it is real. The chair exists whether you sit in it or not. The diagnosis is accurate whether you accept it or not. And yet we have arrived at a cultural moment where the phrase "true for you" is treated as a form of intellectual generosity rather than what it actually is: a polite way of saying nothing matters enough to argue about. But truth that is true regardless of the observer; true truth, not culturally negotiated truce; is the only kind worth staking a life on. Everything else is just interior decoration.

The God Who Refused to Stay Quiet

If the infinite-personal God does not exist, you have a problem that philosophy has spent three thousand years failing to solve: how do you account for the fact that you know anything at all? Not just religious knowledge; any knowledge. The categories you use to think. The moral categories you pretend not to use. The fact that language works. The fact that particulars and universals have anything to do with each other. None of this is self-explanatory. None of it comes free with the hardware. And yet here you are, using concepts that only make sense if Someone has already spoken. He is there. And He is not silent. That is either the most consequential fact in the universe or the most inconvenient one. It cannot be neither.

The One and the Many Have the Same Last Name

Philosophy has a problem it has never solved on its own: how do you get from the individual thing to the universal category without losing one or the other? If you start with the particulars; this chair, that tree, this person; you cannot build a universal without doing violence to the particular. If you start with the universal; Chairness, Humanity, abstract Being; the particular dissolves into a shadow. Every system eventually collapses into one side or the other. Except one. The Christian answer is not a system; it is a person, actually three of them, who are simultaneously one and many without contradiction. The Trinity is not an appendix to theology. It is the only answer to the oldest philosophical question in the book. The One and the Many share the same last name because they share the same nature. And they always have.

How the Headline Ate the Article and Called It Dinner

There was a time, dimly remembered if at all, when a headline was a summary. It told you what the article contained so you could decide whether to read it. Then someone discovered that a headline could also be a weapon. Specifically, a weapon aimed at the part of your brain that feels an emotion before it can name it. The headline stopped summarizing. It started provoking. The article; once the point of the enterprise; became an afterthought, a CYA paragraph buried beneath the fold that technically contained the facts the headline had stretched past recognition. You shared the headline. You felt something because of the headline. You did not read the article. The headline did not need you to.

The Neutrality Myth: Spinelessness Is Not the Same as Integrity

Somewhere along the line, the profession confused having no position with having a principled position. The result is a kind of journalism that treats every claim as equally weighty regardless of its relationship to evidence, not because the journalist believes this, but because taking a side might alienate a demographic that the advertising department has identified as valuable. This is not neutrality. Neutrality would require weighing the claims and reporting which one the evidence supports. What we have instead is a performance of neutrality; a costume worn to avoid having to make a judgment that might cost money. The spine is not missing. It has been surgically removed and billed to the marketing budget.

Both-Sides-ism: A Math Problem That Refuses to Check Out

If one person says two plus two equals four and another says it equals seventeen, the journalistic obligation is not to report that "opinions differ on basic arithmetic" and let the audience decide. But this is exactly what the both-sides doctrine demands: that every claim be granted an equally-weighted counterclaim, regardless of the distribution of evidence, because balance; defined as equal time, not proportional accuracy; is the highest journalistic virtue. The problem is that not all claims distribute evenly across the evidence landscape. Some claims are standing on a mountain of data. Others are standing on a tweet their cousin sent them. Treating both as though they occupy the same epistemological elevation is not fairness. It is a category error wearing a press pass.

Where the Assignment Went to Die

At some point between Woodward and Bernstein and whatever this is, the profession forgot its job description. Not the lofty parts; the parts about speaking truth to power and comforting the afflicted; those it remembered well enough to put on coffee mugs. It forgot the tedious parts. The parts about showing up. About staying in the room after the cameras leave. About verifying something before publishing it. About being boring in service of being correct. The assignment was never to be interesting. Interesting is a byproduct of good reporting. The assignment was to find out what happened and tell people, accurately, in a way they could verify if they wanted to. Everything else; the brands, the personalities, the hot takes, the sponsored content disguised as journalism; everything else is just the funeral arrangements.

The Hate That Makes Room for Love

Before anyone says the word "love"; before we go anywhere near church or marriage; we need to look at a pattern woven into everything we touch and suffer and survive. Light exists because of darkness. Courage exists because of fear. Healing exists because of wounds. And if that pattern holds across all of reality, then maybe love was never supposed to be defined by how long you could avoid hating each other. Maybe it was defined by what happened after.
